Warriors Pass on DeRozan for Trey Murphy III
Merlin sees Golden State passing on DeMar DeRozan. Sam Amick reports the Warriors have "strong interest" in Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III, though New Orleans would need to change course to move him. Sacramento may look elsewhere, with Domantas Sabonis drawing interest from Chicago, Washington, Phoenix and Toronto. Sabonis has averaged 15.4 points and 11.4 rebounds but has played just 14 games while dealing with a partially torn meniscus. Merlin notes the logic. With Jimmy Butler lost for the season and Jonathan Kuminga asking for a trade, the Warriors want a young shooter more than a 36-year-old whose 18.8 scoring average is his lowest since 2012-13. Murphy fits that profile but looks likely to stay. Sabonis could still be dealt, and a new setting might revive his prior All-Star production.
