Playoff Nightmares: Celtics, Thunder, Nuggets Exposed
Merlin sees the league’s top contenders each carrying a particular in-conference nightmare. Using teams ranked top 10 in both winning percentage and net rating, eight contenders were matched with foes most likely to derail them: Celtics vs Charlotte, Cavaliers vs Boston, Nuggets vs Oklahoma City, Pistons vs Cleveland, Rockets vs Denver, Knicks vs Detroit, Thunder vs San Antonio, and Spurs vs Minnesota. The exercise shows playoff paths are as much about matchup quirks as raw records. Merlin notes the reasons vary: Charlotte’s 3-point flood can give Boston trouble, OKC’s length stresses Denver’s defense, Wembanyama reshapes everything, and injuries and experience swing edges. As Cade put it, "We're going to compete until you lay down for us," and Anthony Edwards admitted, "They got Wemby. He's supposed to be the face of the league. I always gotta get up for that one." Expect tactical series, not foregone conclusions.
