Kawhi Leonard to Pistons Shakes Up Clippers
Merlin sees a hypothetical blockbuster: Kawhi Leonard to the Detroit Pistons for Duncan Robinson, Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland and two firsts plus a 2031 pick swap. The deal would pair Kawhi with Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren, immediately boosting Detroit’s finishing and perimeter defense while addressing halfcourt and spacing problems. For the Clippers it would be a clear pivot to youth, shooting and draft assets. Merlin notes the many hoops: Detroit would need to renounce cap holds, re-sign Duren sensibly, and Kawhi’s $50.3 million must stay tradable—plus the league’s probe into alleged cap circumvention and Kawhi’s injury history complicate everything. On paper it’s transformative; in practice it is a risky, high-reward incantation that could break or bind a title contender.
